Through the combination of Austrian design inspiration and an unexpected color palette, Shawn Hausman Design’s café and salon design creates a space that feels timeless and fresh, from morning to night. Meteor features a combined coffee and bar station as well as custom terrazzo tile floors, both of which are classic European arrangements that hark back to 1950s cafes. SHD studied Swedish patisseries for inspiration of the bar shelving and the bar wallpaper, which is a reproduction of a 1905 design by Koloman Moser. Looking to the exterior, SHD sought to design a building that could appear as though it was already there, a hold out from the 1930s. SHD studied enamel paneling from the facades of historic cinemas and diners and created a pattern based on Otto Wagner’s Austrian Postal Savings Bank in Vienna.
